Katie Frinfrock heading to Cabrini College
Katie Finfrock, 5'10 guard from Haverford High, becomes the 10th Comets 16U player to make her college decision. She has chosen to play basketball and volleyball at Cabrini College where she will reunite with her old high school coach Bobbi Morgan and former Comets coach Fran Burbidge.
Katie has been a 4 yr varsity player at Haverford High School leading her team in scoring the last 2 seasons. She was named All Delco and News of Delco All Star. She scored 1233 points in her career after averaging 13 pts and 6 rebounds a game this past season. Katie has been with the Comets since the age of 10 !!

Virginia
McMunigal commits to Cornell University
Virginia McMunigal, 5'8 guard from Penn
Charter, becomes the 9th Comets 16U player to make her college
decision. She has chosen to play basketball at Cornell University
of the Ivy League.
Virginia has been a 4 yr starter at William
Penn Charter High School leading her team in scoring all four
years. She was named All Inter-Ac and team MVP for all 4 years.
She scored her 1000th career point last year and currently is
averaging 24 pts and 5 assists in her senior year.
Virginia has been with the Comets since the
age of 13. Congratulations to Virginia and her family.
Heather
Scanlon commits to Villanova
Heather Scanlon, 6'3 post from Cardinal O'Hara High School, becomes the 8th Comets 16U player to make her college decision. She has made a verbal commitment to attend Villanova University from the Big East.
Heather has been a 4 yr starter at O'Hara leading her team to the the Catholic League finals in each of her 3 seasons and winning the championship as a junior. Her team finished ranked 19th by USA Today at the end of the season. She was named Street and Smith Honorable All American, Daily Times Delco Player of the Year, All State, All Southeastern Pa (Inquirer), News of Delaware County All Star team, and 1st team All Catholic after averaging 12 pts and 10 rebounds a game last year.
Heather has been with the Comets since the age of 10. Congratulations to Heather and her family.
Erin
Floyd commits to UNC - Charlotte
Erin Floyd, a 6'1 forward from Timber Creek High School in South Jersey, becomes the 7th Comets 16U player to make her college decision. She has made a verbal commitment to attend UNC Charlotte of the Atlantic 10 Conference. She chose UNC Charlotte over scholarship offers St. Josephs's, Drexel, Delaware, and UMASS.
She averaged 14 pts and 10 rebounds for Timber Creek and was named All South Jersey and All State - New Jersey
Erin has been with the Comets for 2 years.

Mahala
Thomas commits to Morgan State University
Mahala Thomas, a 5'9 guard/forward from Cumberland Valley High School, becomes the 6th Comets 16U player to make her college decision. She has made a verbal commitment to attend Morgan State University from the MEAC conference. She chose Morgan State over Mt. St. Mary's . Other schools of interest were Hofstra, Bucknell and Delaware.
She averaged 12 pts and 8 rebounds for Cumberland Valley High School and was name All Mid Penn. Mahala has been with the Comets since the age of 13, driving back and forth from her home in Mechanicsburg PA (1 1/2 hours each way) . Her dedication and love for the game will serve her well in college.

Jamie Walsh
commits to LaSalle University
Jamie Walsh, a 5'9 guard from Downingtown East High School,
becomes the 5th Comets 16U player to make her college decision.
She has made a verbal commitment to attend LaSalle University
from the Atlantic 10 Conference. She chose LaSalle over
Northeastern, Lehigh and St. Bonaventure. Jamie has had a
stellar 3 seasons at Downingtown East. She has started varsity
since her freshman season, leading her team to 3 straight 20+
wins seasons, and scoring her 1000th career point this past
season. She averaged 13 pts and 6 assists per game.
She has been named All Ches-Mont
League and All Chester County for 3 years, and Honorable Mention
All State last year.
Jamie has been with the Comets

Kim
Benton commits to University of Massachusetts
Kim Benton, 5'6 guard from Cardinal O'Hara High School, becomes the 4th
Comets 16U player to make her college decision before her senior season. She has made a verbal commitment to attend University of
Massachusetts from the Atlantic 10 conference. She also received
heavy recruiting interest from Siena and Loyola.
Kim was instrumental in helping O'Hara win the Catholic League Championship this year and finished the season ranked 19th in
the country by USA Today. She was named to the News of Delaware County
All Star team, All Delco Honorable Mention, and All Catholic after averaging 7 pts and 5 assists.
Kim has been with the Comets since the age of 10. Congratulations to Kim and her family.
Amy Gillespie
commits to St. Joseph's University
Amy Gillespie, 6’0 guard from Cardinal O’Hara High School, has made a verbal commitment to attend St. Joseph’s University. Amy has just completed her junior season at O’Hara where she averaged 15ppg. She was named 1st team All – Catholic, 1st team All Delco, 1st Team News of Delaware County. Cardinal O’Hara finished the season with 26 wins and 2 losses, winning the Catholic League Championship and ranked 19th in the country by the USA Today. Earlier in the year she was also named to the Street and Smith Honorable Mention All American list. Amy is the 1st Comets 16U player to make her college choice as early as her junior year. Amy has been with the Comets since she was 10 yrs old. Congratulations to Amy and her family.
Shannon Elliott
commits to Villanova
Shannon Elliott, 6’3 forward from Padua Academy in Delaware, becomes the 2nd Comets 16U player to make her college choice as early as her junior year. Shannon will be taking her basketball talents to Villanova University. She narrowed her college choices to VU, Delaware, Seton Hall and Georgetown. Shannon was name 1st team All State,
1st team All Conference and averaged 17 ppg, 9.5 rebounds, 5 blocks and 3 steals this
past season at Padua Academy. Shannon has played for the Comets for 3 years and has a great future at Villanova University. Congratulations to Shannon and her family.
Meghan Gardler
commits to UConn
Meghan Gardler, a 6’0 forward from Cardinal O’Hara High School, becomes the 3rd Comets player to make her college decision. Meghan has verbally committed to the University of Connecticut, coached by Philadelphia’s own Geno Auriemma. Meghan average 10 pts and 8 rebounds for O’Hara (26 – 2) leading her team to the Catholic League Championship and ranked number 19th in the USA Today final high school rankings. Meghan was named 1st team All – Delco, 2nd team All Catholic, 1st Team News of Delaware County. Meghan has played with the Comets since the age of 11. We congratulate Meghan and her family.

Comets 14s heading for Championship Sunday,
May 22nd
Congratulations to Coach Chris Genther and Renie Shields and all the girls on the Comets 14s who went 4-1 this past weekend and will play Fencor for the Middle Atlantic Championship on Sunday. They become the 3rd Comets team to be represented (10s and 16s). No
organization has more than 3 teams represented in the major age groups of 10s to 16s.
The Comets defeated their 1st 2 opponents easily ( Chester County Wizards and Tarheels)
and then faced a tough DBL club going up 18 at halftime and holding on to win by 10.
We then lost to Fencor in the winners bracket final. The girls came back 4 hours later and defeated DBL again 66 - 63 to gain a rematch with Fencor on May 22nd.
Congratulations to all the coaches and the girls.
Comets 12 Ross
places third at regionals
Congratulations to the Comets 12 Ross team who placed
third at regionals.
The team will head to Nationals for the 3rd straight year. The team won
their 1st 2 games easily putting them in the winners bracket final.
They played Fencor and lost a close game by 4 pts.
The next game was versus Mid Penn Motion who defeated the Comets.
The Comets 12s took home the bronze.

10s and 16s Qualify for Championship Sunday - May 22, 2005
Congratulations to the Comets
10- Fitzpatrick who will play for the Middle Atlantic Championship on Championship Sunday May 22nd at Northeast High. The team defeated the Renegades 52 - 12 and Lower Delco Wildcats 37 - 6 in games 1 and 2. They then played the Rockers in the winners bracket final. The defeated the Rockers 48 to 40,thus guaranteeing a 1st or 2nd place finish in the tournament.
The team has also earned a trip to AAU Division 1 Nationals. Congrats to all the girls and coached Ellen and Gigi.
Congratulations to the Comets 10 - Treml team who played in the Division II Mid Atlantics and took home a silver medal losing in the final. The Comets defeated the BC Wildcats 42 - 39, Fencor B 38 - 16, and Chester Cou Wiz - Angelpo 38 - 16 and Renegades Frost 35 to 8. The team by finishing 2d has earned an invitation to the Div II Nationals in Disneyworld. Congratulations to Mark, Bob and Tonie and all the girls.
Congratulations to the Comets 16s - who went 4 - 0 over the weekend defeating the Belles Elite team 57 to 43 in the winners bracket final. The 16s will play for the Middle Atlantic Championship on May 22nd. The team defeated the Belles Plakis but 15, handled Firm AC 97 - 50, beat Belles Paettie 46 - 32 and then Belles Elite (Lynch) in the winners final. Congratulations to Chuck, Fran and all the girls on a great weekend.
The team has guaranteed itself at Top 16 seed at AAU Division 1 Nationals in July. |
