Kerri Shields, a 5’10 guard from Archbishop Carroll High School, became the 1st Comets player to make her college decision.  Kerri has signed with Boston College of the ACC conference.  Kerri averaged 12 pts and 5 rebounds for Carroll this past season leading her team to 3A State Title and Philadelphia Catholic League Championship and a Top 10 National ranking.  She has scored over 1300 points in 4 seasons at Carroll.

Kerri was named Class AAA Player of Year, 1st team All – Catholic League, 1st team All Delco, 1st team All Main Line and 1st team All Southeastern PA.  She is a 2 time honorable mention All American by Sporting News.   She was also named AAU All-American as the Comets placed 5th at AAU 16U Nationals in 2008.  Kerri was also named to the prestigious Boo Williams All Tournament team in 2007.  Kerri has played with the Comets since the age of 9.  We congratulate Kerri and her family.

Devon Kane, 5’9 guard from Notre Dame Academy, signed with Villanova University of the Big East.   Devon chose Villanova over other scholarship offers from Louisville and SJU and recruiting interest from Notre Dame and Stanford.  Devon only played 6 games her junior season at ND while she recovered from a torn ACL in summer of 2007.  She came back in her senior year and averaged 16 pts, 5 assists, 6 rebounds and 4 steals per game.  Devon senior year ended in the Inter Ac league championship game where she tore her ACL again.   She was named 1st team All – State, 1st team All – Inter Ac, 1st team All Delco, 1st Team All Main Line and 1st team All Southeastern PA.  Devon was named a Sporting News Honorable Mention All American and also listed on Hoopgurlz.com top 100 players for 2009 class.  She has led her Comets team to a 4th and 5th place AAU Nationals finish in 2007 and 2008.  Devon has been with the Comets since she was 10 yrs old.  Congratulations to Devon and the Kane family.

Danielle Callahan, 5’7 guard from Cardinal O’Hara High School, becomes the 3rd Comets 16U player to make her college choice.  Danielle will be taking her basketball talents to LaSalle University.  Danielle led her O’Hara team to the District 12 Championship and another Top 10 National ranking.  She was named 2nd team All Catholic, 3rd team All Delco,  and averaged 6 ppg and 4 assts this past season at Cardinal O’Hara.  She was also named 1st team All-Delco in tennis.  Danielle has played for the Comets since she was 10 yrs.  Congratulations to Danielle and the Callahan family.

Hollie Mershon, 5’10 guard from Archbishop Carroll High School, becomes the 6th Comets 16U player to make her college choice.  Hollie has accepted a scholarship from coach Denise Dillon (former Comets player) and Drexel University of the Colonial Athletic Conference.  Hollie has won a 2 Catholic League Championship and 1 State Championship at Carroll after transferring from Sacred Heart after her freshman year.  She averaged 11 pts and 8 rebounds a game for Carroll this past season.  She was 2nd team All Catholic, 3rd team All Delco and 1st team All Main Line. Elle Hagedorn, a 5’9 guard from Mt. St. Joseph’s Academy, becomes the 7th Comets 16U player to make a college decision.  Elle has been accepted to Harvard University of the IVY League.  Elle, with her strong rebounding and clutch scoring, helped lead the Mount to a 29-3 record, a second straight Athletic Association of Catholic Academies championship and the PIAA Class AAA state title in 2007.  She was named 1st team All-AACA, 2nd team All Southeastern PA, 2nd team All State.  She has played for the Comets for 5 years.  Congratulations to Elle and the Hagedorn family. Danielle Derr-Balasa, a 6’0 forward from Upper Dublin, becomes the 9th Comets 16U player to commit to college.  She has given a verbal commitment to Bloomsburg University.  She returned from shoulder surgery after missing all of 2007 summer with rehab.  She was named 1st team All League.  Danielle is a 3 year starter at Upper Dublin High School and has played for the Comets since the age of 13.    Congratulations to Danielle and the Balasa family.

 

Fiona Flanagan, 5’11 guard/forward from Notre Dame Academy, becomes the 10th Comets player to accept a full athletic scholarship.  She signed in the April signing period with Drexel University.  Fiona is a 3 year starter at Notre Dame where she average 10 pts , 8 rebounds, and 3 steals a game this past season leading her team to a 24-8 record.  She was named 1st team All-Interac, 2nd team All Delco and 1st team All Main Line this past season.    Fiona has played for Comets since the age of 13.  Congratulations to Fiona and her family.
